View Full Version : USB broke after yum update

After installing FC3 and updating udev (as mentioned in previous posts) my flash card reader and Palm Pilot were detected and /dev devices initialized when plugged in or turned on. I could watch /var/log/messages and see the detection followed by the device creation in the /dev filesystem.
After doing a "yum update" (which updated dozenes of packages on my system) no USB devides are detected. Removing and placing the flash card in the USB reader doesn't log anything in /var/log/messages, same with hitting the sync button on my Palm Pilot cradle.
Figuring it was the hotplug package, a removed the current one, and installed the original the FC3 DVD. Sadly, that did not restore USB device detection.
Any ideas? It would be a bummer to reinstall the whole system for this one function.

Paul

I see no one has answered your question. Unfortunately I do not have an answer and in fact I have a similar problem. I upgraded to a new machine, did a fresh install of FC3 from dvd followed by mega-up2date downloads. My old FC3 system worked great with a 6-in-1 Sandisk card reader; it recognized the card and created a file under /media which I could mount.
Now strangely my new machine will only auto-mount one of the memory slots (a CF card). When I insert a card into the SD slot, nothing at all happens; the card is not detected.
/etc/modprobe.conf contains the following relevant lines:
alias usb-controller ehci-hcd
alias usb-controller1 ohci-hcd
alias usb-controller2 uhci-hcd
scsi_mod max_luns=6
This is exactly the same as on the old machine. Does anyone have an idea what's going on here? It's frustrating because SD is the only slot I need on that reader. I'm hoping to avoid buying a new card reader if possible; it seems like a configuration problem. :(
Help?

I have also a USB problem.
I installed FC3: no problems with anything.
did updates: USB not working anymore. When doing dmesg |grep usb here is what I get:
usbcore: registered new driver usbfs
usbcore: registered new driver hub
usbcore: registered new driver hiddev
usbcore: registered new driver usbhid
drivers/usb/input/hid-core.c: v2.0:USB HID core driver
SELinux: initialized (dev usbfs, type usbfs), uses genfs_contexts
usb usb1: USB disconnect, address 1
usb usb2: USB disconnect, address 1
usb usb3: USB disconnect, address 1
usb usb4: USB disconnect, address 1
usb usb5: USB disconnect, address 1
this is pretty wierd, it loads all usb then disconnects all of them. I had to plug my mouse into PS2 port to make it work now. I tried several USB devices, none of them seems to be working now :(
If anyone knows a fix I'd apreciate.
Thanks

I installed FC3 on a Socket 775 mother oard with 925 chipset. All usb devices were working fine. I did a kernel update, which solved my AHCI problems (IDE light will not go off after kernel loads), worst yet, after hotplug and udev update mu usb mouse and keyboard are no responding. During the boot process
kudzu starts up but I can't press any buttons :(. Does anyone has a solution for this USB thingy?

I see the last post on this thread is back in February. Has anyone found a solution to this issue yet. I too had just recently installed FC3, did a yum update and lost my USB mouse after the kernel update. I've tried moving the mouse to different headers with no joy.
