I have a blank wall in my room here at the University of Nottingham (http://www.nottingham.ac.uk/) and I'd really like it if you could help me decorate it. All I ask is that you send me a post card from wherever in the world you live, with some short message and your username. Not only will I feel loved as a result, but it'll help decorate my room. My address is:

Gareth Russell
Cripps Hall,
University Park,
Nottingham,
England,
NG7 2QW

It would be very nice of you lot to send me some post cards. All i'll post a photo of the result in the gallery in due course if successful.

Oh, I will send you both a postcard soon for sure as soon as I get some time during the exam period I have at the moment. :)

Great idea indeed. I remember that some of my friends promised to gift me a nude art picture for my next birthday to fullfill the empty wall. :p

Very nice. Thanks for the post card. Do you happen to climb by any strange chance? I've heard that corsica can be a pretty good place to go for that.

It's a good place to climb, yes. But I don't.

I happen to dive (very nice spots, BTW), and walking (great journey on the GR 20 !) Typically, Corsica could be ... the alps in the mediterannean sea !

Nothing quite like the exhiliation of crapping your pants, 20 metres up on a technical climb. ;)

Greetings,

Nifty idea, I'll send something soon, I'm US Military and if anyone wants to send me a Post Card:

CTA2 Thomas Roy Garner
USS MOMSEN (DDG 92)
OT DIVISION
FPO AP 96672-1307

So if you wish, send a small Postcard there, and I'll be happy to send back something, just make sure that your address is legible, so that I can READ it! :)

Ug

Got to love the US Military. I grew up around a lot of yanks, sadly most of the bases have closed with the end of the cold war. I'll send you a postcard today.

Wonder how much postage to the UK is... hmmmmmmmmmm.... might be getting one in a few days Ug

Jman
5th February 2005, 04:41 AM
If you're in the US, use this (http://ircalc.usps.gov/) to calculate postage. Seems like a postcard is US $0.70 to Europe. Slap on a couple stamps and you're set.

tashirosgt
5th February 2005, 05:53 AM
The obvious question: Is there any Linux software for printing postcards? (I can't even get envelope addressing to work on my printer)

sailor
5th February 2005, 07:28 PM
Yup, Post Office said $.70 is correct to Europe...sure is high for a postcard...of course I haven't sent a postcard since they were a nickel...probably 30 years ago...:(

I imagine that there are open office templates for postcards? I used one to make cd labels...so I am sure someone out there is making specialized templates.
Here is a template I made for OOffice...standard US postcard

I had to rename it postcard.txt bcause forum doesn't allow upload of .sxw
Just change the return address to your address, then print. use the back side of paper and repirnt with a image
in place of the original postcard text.

tashirosgt
6th February 2005, 04:05 AM
You template makes me realize I have a fundamental deficiency in my knowledge of Open Office. How do I edit the text inside the postcard? Nothing I do seems to work. I can get a pop-down menu with a "text" option that lets me write inside the card. But I don't see how to get a hold of the text that is already there.

sailor
6th February 2005, 04:39 AM
My address is the only text that you will be able to edit...just click on the text and the textbox borders should show, then click the "text tool " to edit inside the box...or just delete the text box and make your own.
The other text is part of the background image...
I am using StarOffice 7 but it is the same as OOffice...

harlequin
8th February 2005, 03:24 AM
Heh, it's costing me NZ$1.50 to send a post card to the UK... still gotta sit down and write on them, and post them. I'll get there sometime soon ;)

Two us stamps will do. Actual price is $0.70 cents but two regular stamps will do.
