Help. Have tried installing Fedora 3 x86_64 on my motherboard but after reading CD for start up Fedora cannot find my DVD drive.
System is:
Asus A8V Deluxe
Athlon 3500+
ATI 9800 AIW Pro
1G Kingston DRAM
C: 120G
D: 200G
E: DVD rom
F: DVD +RW/-RW DL
C & D are on primary IDE
E & F on secondary
I tried finding a FTP site to do an install but cannot find the address(or overlooked it)
Any help would be greatly appreciated. (So far Fedora is the ONLY Linux that even get this far in install)
TIA

It (or the computer) finds my E drive DVD but F drive can't be set to boot. I did try setting boot sequence to floppy, DVD1, DVD2 and Fedora starts the install when I boot the computer and then can't find it.
Is there an FTP site I could use to install from? Fedora gives me the option of HTTP/FTP/CDROM/Hard Drive?

I just installed on the +/- same machine, with hardly any problems, unless you consider wasting an entire week of life a problem... I wonder that you refer to disks with drive letters? Do you have a previous window installation that you are trying to preserve?
Have you you gone through all the BIOS options, in particular be sure to set AGP to 4x and not 8x since that is not supported by FC3 x86_64 on ATI cards. Let me know how you get on.

I have a WinXP installed but if I can get Linux to work XP is history. DLing 4CD nows. Something with the eroor(something about core files not found) makes me think DVD version is bad.
Now with freezing rain I hope I can complete dl.

Did you run a checksum on the DVD?

On what OS did you use todownload the image of the DVD? I had to use FC3 x86 and the command wget to download it correctly.
On *nix usually
>md5sum [file to check]
On Windows try this to check the md5 checksums:
http://www.fastsum.com/
There is a list of checksums in the directory for the images.
Hope this helps

When I downloaded the DVD in windows it was always 2GB, which is the file size limit in Windows. When I downloaded it in Fedora it was just over 2.4GB, which is correct. The CDs worked for one of my installs.

If you're seeing a 2GB file size limitation on Windows, then your Windows drive is formatted as FAT. You can convert to NTFS with the "convert" command in Windows. See this article (http://www.microsoft.com/technet/prodtechnol/winxppro/maintain/convertfat.mspx) for details. NTFS is a much better filesystem than FAT; there's little reason to use FAT anymore.

DVD version was dled to my NTFS drive and then written to DVD.
Gotta get this done before Sunday. We're expecting a major Noreaster snowstorm.
CD version all pass md5. Whew!

It should work now, you will probably have to do a little work to get the audio working if your using the onboard audio. On mine everything worked, I use an Audigy 2ZS.
