I have a San Disk 512 and it automatically comes up on the desktop. But i also have a Creative MuVo 128 USB mp3 player, and when i plug that in it does not come up. I'm not sure if they need drivers or not.

It doesn't show up on my desktop. Matter of fact, the only things that do is my two dvd roms and the recycle bin. I don't know what happened to the shortcut that showed my all my drives.

Which fedora version are you using? For fc2 you may need to do this: http://www.fedoraforum.org/forum/showthread.php?t=1291 and in fc3 it should mount just like in windoz.

Also, where do I go to put the mycomputer icon back on the desktop. It seemed to have disappeared. I also can no longer login under root, can only login as a user then run applications under root.

it appeared after typing the command. I removed it and it and installed it, now it's gone again. I am very new to Fedora. I llike it, but it sure is a lot of work.

well, hal is supposed to auto-mount usb drives, but it has problems with usb 2.0. if you have a usb 2.0 port on your pc, then this won't work. I've tried lots of stuff and I had to plug a usb 1.1 hub into the usb 2.0 port to get my 1GB Sandisk to work. Once it was using usb 1.1 instead of 2.0, it showed up on the desktop automatically.

Wow, I am using 2.0, but I think I have a 1.o hub, I'll try it later. You know, maybe that's why it worked. I pluged it in a the hub that time instead of directily in.
