re-boot the machine and try logging in as 'root' from the opening menu

update "udev" from "up2date" command
it could be a start...

I dont know which kernel you are using but in fc2 there was an issue with kernel 2.6.8 ( i think :( ) that would not let you burn using k3b. I now use fc3 and k3b works fine becuase I burned some mp3's about 4 hours ago.

If that happens you can always have some of that indian tea to keep it down :p

Hi!

You have K3b on FC3 without "udev" update.
So it will work just being a root user....

It happened to me, to others so... update the "udev". Just" udev"...

Fortuanally for us that use the latest kernel this time k3b works.

I have error 254 problems burning any kind of media using K3b. I'm trying to burn whilst under my normal user login. I'm not even sure if loggin in as root will solve my problem (gets around 3/4 thru a burn and bombs with an error 254). But even so, us linux newbies are encouraged to log on NOT as root and get into this habit. If programs like K3b don't work unless you are in root, whats the point of that?

well I cannot help with error 254 but I can burn as a user no need to login as root. i took the easy way out and just installed fc3 - what are you on , also I guess you'll have to ask the real techies -
