After reading another thread I downloaded and installed Firestarter(thanx Tru)
How do I set it to Deny ping request. And what if any consequences can this have for my internet usage. Being a complete newbie to linux, I would be greatly thankfull for any tips of how to keep my pc safe and clean. I managed to run it with xp 24/7 without any harmfull malware causing damage to it, and as far as i can tell no succesfull hack attempts either. Certainly I aim to do the same now that I finally got around to "convert" to Fedora :cool:

I don't have Firestarter installed myself, but ping is a ICMP protocol, not TCP/UDP, so you might look for ICMP options.

You should look for ICMP option Echo Request = PING.

Google is your friend.
I just googled, "firestarter howto"
At least a dozen places to go for information were returned.
I chose, http://firestarter.sourceforge.net/manual
The manual there is for the next previous issue of firestarter, but browsing a bit, it looks like it will answer most of your questions.
Total time spent, from reading this thread, to leaving to read a bit, and returning to post this reply;
12 minutes.

firestarter is a GUI for iptables(default firewall) yes i recommend useing it, will give you a more "hands on" feel. Plus it shows current connections blocked connections etc. etc.. Very simple to use, very user friendly. changeing your rules are just a right click away. :)
