Hello!

I've put together a system that will serve as a fileserver. Here is the overview of relevant system info:

CPU: Pentium 4 3GHz HT
Mobo: Asus P4C800 Deluxe: Intel 875P Chipset, Promise 20378 RAID controller (SATA)
HDD: 1 IDE 80GB, 2 x Hitachi 250GB SATA-150

I need the two SATA drives mirrored.
The RAID1 array is set up through the Promise control panel (on the hardware level). According to that everything is mirrored and working fine.

Now what I dont know how to do is how to set this up under FC3. Fedora sees these two disks as separate SCSI Device A and SCSI Device B. How can I set them up as a single mirrored disk?

Thanks in advance for any help!

Hi

I have the same problem.I am trying to make a RAID1 from 2 80GB SATA hard-drives.As far as i've read on the internet my controler is a FAKE RAid controller, also a PROMISE 20..
I've created RAID1 from the controller's setup, and then manualy partitionated with DISK DRUID.
As you've mentioned fedora doe's not see the array created before so you need to create it again.
You can easy setup a raid 1 from the 2 sata drives (you cannot choose the mont point) with is pretty bad.
And then create a /boot and a /swap patition from the ATA hdd.Your system shoul boot up fine, but if the ATA disk brakes down your systen will not boot

I did the same thing but,i have just 2 sata drives,i did make a raid 0 array from the controller setup, created an /boot partition manualy in disk druid and then i've made raid 1 from the remeining space. The system boot's up fine..but if a hard-drive fail i will have a big problem.
This server will be used as a webserver running apache and php,and will be rackmounted at an internet provider..

Hope that helps d-lexy

Any other sugestions?Beside buying a new controller.

Since I need that system online and working by tomorrow I ended up building a RAID1 through FC3 itself. It's been formatting it for 30min now and is still on 35% :p I will attach it to the network tomorrow and see how it performs. If the performance is too lousy I will have to buy an extra PCI Controller.

Tnx for your input BouReag

I'm thinking the same..buying a new raid controller. But pay attention to the specifications of the controler, and do not buy again a "Fake raid controller".A controller with hardware support cost around $300,and a software support only $80-100
