View Full Version : No 3D with Rage 128 based card -- Downgrade X.Org?

I am having trouble getting 3D to work on my Rage 128 based card. (ATI Mobility M3.) It works great out of the box in SUSE, Slackware, and Ubuntu. The r128 drivers are loaded, and the log even says that 3D accleration is enabled, but glxgears only gives me 120 FPS.

Now, the only thing that I can see that would make a difference, is that FC3 uses X.Org 6.8. I think that I remember reading somewhere that 6.8 brakes binary compatibility with some drivers. Of particular note is the firegl drivers that I saw mentioned on fedorafaq.org. However, my card doesn't have anything to do with the firegl, does it?

Is this, by any chance, a known issue? I couldn't find anything about it on the net. Should I try downgrading X.Org? Should I use FC2 rpms to make it easier? (Or might that not work?)

I would really appriciate any advice here.

I believe to get fast 3D you need drivers from ATI. There is several how tos in our How To forum for how to try and do this.

You will have to disable DRI in order to use the ATi drivers with X.org 6.8.x, which disables 3D. You need to wait a few weeks for the next ATi driver release, which ATi states has 6.8.x support.

You can try http://www.stanford.edu/~fenn/linux/radeon.shtml . It has the ati fglrx rpm driver configured for FC3. As metioned before, dri must be disabled.

Sorry, I think that the fglrx driver is only for radeon cards. Not sure if it supports rage128.
