I did a fresh install of FC3 and updated all the packages including the kernel. the cd has kernel-2.6.9-1.667. The update is kernel-2.6.9-1.681_FC3. For some reason, the new kernel update didnt get placed in grub.conf.
How do i boot into my new kernel? where did the /boot/grub/grub.conf go?
Thanx

Check the contents of your "/boot" directory to make sure that the kernel really is there.

If it is, then you can edit the "/boot/grub/grub.conf" file by hand and add a new section by hand to load your new kernel.

PS: Personally, I wouldn't upgrade kernels every Major.Minor.Release-subrelease.version cycle. It's pretty much a waste of time and bandwidth, (unlesss it SPECIFICALLY address either a hardware or security fix that you must have)....

Otherwise, you are spending more time installing new kernels, and less time learning/using linux. (that's my opinion, I am certain that some will take exception to it, and I am sure flames will follow)

If you are absolutely stuck on having the "latest and greatest" kernel, then I would visit http://www.kernel.org/ and learn how to build a new kernel from scratch and how to apply kernel patches. At least that way you will learn more about the linux kernel, the kernel install process, how patches are installed/applied, and assist the developers who truly are living on the "bleeding edge".....

Its a fresh install and what happens with a fresh install is an irratiting flashing red exclamation mark that doesnt leave you alone until you cater to its every whims keeps knocking on your head. Part of that update is this kernel upgrade along with what seems like hours of program updates. its a killer i tell ya! an im new at this. :o
