can't get the Samsung CLP-620ND printer that is on my local network to work. Using "system settings" app, it always installs as if it is a local printer, even though I selected "network printer." Also, when I tried to specify the URL address of the printer, Fedora still thought it was hooked to the local machine. Bah.
Has anyone gotten it to work? The Samsung "unified printer driver" was of little help, yielding cups problems left and right. <sigh>
Thanks if you can help with this.
Oh yeah, I'm using Fedora 17 64 bit.

I have F16 (64-bit) Gnome 3 and a Samsung ML 2955 series printer on my home network. I accessed (recognised the printer) using Applications > Printing program.

You probably completed this already, but first you have to set up your Samsung printer on your network (whether through router or broadcasting on its own). If you are using a router, it is fairly straight forward, in that the router recognises and allows access to your printer.

Using the Printing program in G3, will also adjust your firewall settings - you just have to OK it :)

I tried that method thanks to your advice and got further than ever while using Fedora. It won't see the printer while using "IPP" but does when using "LPR." However, printing a test page reveals some garbage, then some offset text that says you're using the wrong driver. <sigh> Winblows and Ubuntu find and print to this printer just fine, all over the network as the printer's only connection hooked up is it's network one. Thanks for the help!

Yeah, it is still odd to set up. My Samsung is a mono laser-jet (ML2955DW) model, but I have to use the Samsung ML-2552W Cups driver for decent printing. And most often, I have to reload (from the network) my printer to my F16 notebook.

The included drivers and the Printing program with F16 works OK, and gives good prints, just a hassle to configure (and periodically) reload the printer from the network to my F16 notebook. Not sure what is up with the reload issue, as it does the same (need to reload printer from network) with my legacy eMac. Even with the Samsung program installed on the Mac, I still have the reload issue. Have not had time to track down this buggy printer behavior in my network, but my suspicion is something is going on with the printer entering sleep mode and machines sleeping or disconnecting from my network is causing the reload issue.

Once you do find the right driver (I have luck with CUPS + Gutenprint drivers), F16 works as well as any other machine (Linux, Mac, Windows) on my network with printing.
