When pondering ideas to support the FedoraForum.org community I came across the idea of @FedoraUser.org e-mail addresses. You could truly show your Fedora pride, by using you e-mail address. It would also be a great way to support the FedoraForum community. The service would be a fee service, but we would use money to upgrade servers, software, and provide for the community.
Now the question is how interested would you be for the following:
user@FedoraUser.org e-mail address
100MB E-mail storage space
POP3 Access
10MB attachment size
Virus Scanning
Spam Filter
All at a cost around $5 per month.
Please let us know what you think.

I think that the problem for many would be payment, I'm currently in Germany and I wouldn't know how to send the money overseas.
Also how would fluctuations in currencty affect it?
But I think the idea is a good one.

Well for payment:
We could use paypal
We would have a yearly option where you pay $50 for a year payed in full (2 months free)
We would accept credit card payments
We would accept money transfers
If you have any other ideas let us know ilja (we would love to make international payments easy).
For currency affected, it would be 5 US dollars. Currency would then have to be figured from there. So it would be based on current exchange rates of the dollar. So at 1.22 US dollars for 1 euro, it would be approximately 4.09 euros per month.

A cheap idea would be to create aliases like for FSF members, i.e. myname@fredorausers.org being an alias to myrealmailbox@somewhere.net.
This would be easier to maintain for administrators and maybe cheaper for subscribers.
My 2 cents...

Well another good idea, maybe we could have two levels of service. Like originally posted, and one like micha stated. That is a pretty good idea. Hmmm... now you have me thinking. Like $2 a month for redirection, or $20 a year for redirection.

Ok paypal and credit card is allready very good. But there would be a problem with money transfers to USA, they are really expensive. But there is an alternative: In the EU there is a law that says, if you make a money transfer in a from a country of eu into another country of eu, they are not allowed to take more money than it a inner-country transfer would cost. So for example Gareth could make an account somewhere in England. But there would be the problem, how the money from England would come to USA. Maybe he could collect it and send it via PayPal? I know many organisations who have an account in USA one in Europe and one in Asia. But maybe I make it all too complicated and everybody uses PayPal or a CreditCard.

I don't think you'll be able to compete with GMAIL once that service goes public. Try FedoraForum merchandise (i.e. shirts, hats, mugs).

Plus what about privacy issues and ads with gmail. That is another reason our service would be better than gmail. Oh and with redirection you could have it forwarded to gmail. But we are working through all that.

I'd buy a shirt and/or mug! Especially if the shirt came with a EXPLETIVE DELETED pocket.
Why doesn't anyone make t-shirts with freakin' pockets anymore?!?!?!

Why doesn't anyone make t-shirts with freakin' pockets anymore?!?!?! Just the other day, I saw CASES of pocket tees at the local "Big Lots" store (Venice, CA). Are they in Texas, or just a local phenomenon?
And, yeah, I'd buy a mug, too...

I can find plenty of "plain" shirts with pockets - it's the ones with logos, etc. that don't come that way anymore. I do have a few lovely older Warner Bros. pocket-Ts, though...

I use gmail and i find it probably the best free email survice around. Ads on gmail are in text and dont bother me at all.
Good idea though, redirection will probably do the job.
