Any comments by the topic starter? Or anything other to start a disscussion?
This is a disscussions board. It is known that Windows started a compain against Linux long time ago, so why just posting two links?

The demand for linux drivers is there....so vendors are force to make them and the gap is closing.

I just saw this advertised somewhere, and I thought it was funny.

Hmm...I wonder. I HATE Microsoft.

Which reminds me, is anyone familiar with the site http://www.****microsoft.com/ ? I think Microsoft shut them down...

The "Get the Facts" campaign has been going on for a while. I enjoy the fact that with their ads Microsoft pays for many sites I visit. I don't believe them entirely, however.

The fatal flaw of such studies is that they include migration costs from Windows to Linux but do not include the equivalent costs from Linux to Windows. It's assumed that you already know Windows. I have yet to see a convincing, fair performance comparison either.

Hotmail was migrated to IIS from Apache on FreeBSD. (http://www.microsoft.com/technet/itsolutions/migration/case/hotmail/default.mspx) It was quite an undertaking.

They probably dump a big legal sue on the guy that forced him to close the site.

What if really, Windows decided to make a full distro using Linux?

I can just see Bill Gates now, saying, "Well sir, if we can't beat them, join them." Then he has this awkward, eerie, eeeeeerie smile on his face and all that resounds in the background is this quote from The Simpsons:

"You didn't think I got rich by writing a bunch of cheques did you?"

For all enjoyment purposes: MS Linux? (http://www.mslinux.org/)

Yeah, I would LOVE to see a real initiate to Linux try and understand what's going on. Especially when he's been using Windows hardcore for 6+ years.

If you take children and grow them up on each platform, independantly, I believe the child using Linux would be able to use Windows, however, vice-versa? *shrugs*

We're not just talking conversion costs for platforms, but training, etc.

Well if you exposed the child on windows to the almost completely dead windows CLI it might not be so bad when putting them in front of a Linux box...

;)

I can just see myself now...

"Ok, now the only thing you need to remember son, is the following:

- Slashes, no backslashes, except to escape a character.
- Case-sensitive.
- Tab to end a word.
- `man` for help!
- Extensions are superflous, no need for 8.3."

I'm convinced my son would be like... "Euhhh, 'cd and dir' right dad?'

lol!

It's a funny thought indeed. :D

My buddy's 10 year old, Valerie, can now edit his IP Tables, mount/unmount FAT32/EXT3 parts, map drives, design XML, etc. :)

Talk about fully functional.

I would believe that! :) Her dad is really into *nix systems, in a big way. :)

I guess the apple doesn't fall far from the tree.

I was at work and he's like, "Watch this." *dials a number on the phone* "Hi Val? Can you do me a favor and map /dev/hda4 please hon? You know, the /movies partition I made?"

Then he refreshes a web-app and is like, "Tada!"

She's a smart cookie that little one. :)
