I tried out the new application which gives access to virtual machines (gnome-boxes), but it fails when creating a Windows XP box. I also tested Tiny Core Linux, where the box creation failed as well.

Had anyone any success with gnome-boxes or experienced similar issues?

I might use either VirtualBox or virt-manager as alternative.

I experienced the same. When I started to read up on boxes I discovered it is pretty much like Documents. Completely broken in its initial release, and destined to be useless once it actually starts to work like it is intended to.

Use virt-manager or virtualbox.

yes I will use one of the alternatives.

well I found this bug report: Gnome-boxes causes SELinux alerts (https://bugzilla.redhat.com/show_bug.cgi?id=815078)

after allowing qemu-kvm write access to a log file, it is possible to start Tiny Core Linux (or probably any other system, also Win XP), but it's very slow, more sluggish than it would be in VirtualBox, and after shuting down the guest system, gnome-boxes freezes. Also the lack of configuration possibilities (like used RAM size or used disk space) is annoying.
