I tested the alpha version of fedora17 to see if gnome was richer in offerings. I am disappointed. the standard display appeared to be a recompile of that from Fedora16, with perhaps a few integrated bug-fixes.
To stay with Gnome3, I would love to see a Gnome3 application which allows me to set it up to directly open and leave open a folder of my choice, (other than home, which is provided by default).
Thus, I could click on a this favorite icon, and have that folder open immediately too, to a second workspace.
Having quick accesses to a folder (or sub-directory) would solve a lot of the criticism of Gnome3 and the complaint about the number of mouse clicks to achieve what can be done in Gnome2 with one click.
Also, what happens if I want to add to the list, 25 of my own favorites with several different applications. Will I be able to have two columns of favorites, as my screen is a 1080p, but my netbook is a 1024 deep count of pixals.
Because of Gnome3 deficiencies, I have actually started to become familiar with KDE, which I ignored for 4 years. And as I become more familiar with it I like it better than Gnome3 (but not better than the Gnome2 interface) If I remain with Fedora, it will not be due to Gnome3 (I like xfce, compiz and gnome2 functionality, and KDE all more than Gnome3.
I have looked at cinnamon (Mint 12), and might consider it as the definite alternative to Gnome3. I believe most Linux users would agree that it is great.
