Are you able to complete boot, and thus able to swtich console?
If so, just cat the /var/log/messages to an usb or flash-drive, not sure if that would suffice anyhow.

nope. as soon as i get that Udev bit i mentioned in another thread of mine it stalls for a bit then it spits out all this Nouveau DRM stuff

if it booted into the GUI i could get the log messages without a problem. there's no point making a Redhat BZ now if i dunno how to get the log of the errors :( . if i had a Camera i would do it but i dont . i'll try it in a VM and see if i can get the stuff i need there. otherwise i stuffed if i know how im gonna get what i nee to report the problem. an iv'e tried Pressing TAB and then typing 3 . makes no difference im afraid :(

Live-Desktop has a nice background, but I can't log in.
I can switch to a console, but no luck with login there either.
The error is overwritten quickly, but I think it says: no shell - permission denied
ISO checksum verifies correct.
Also tried booting to text mode - same thing.

i have a strange feeling there's gonna be TC3 quicker than we think . looks like a few things were left out of TC2 which will cause a problem https://fedorahosted.org/rel-eng/ticket/5054#comment:8

You need to boot with enforcing=0 for now to be able to log in:

Yes, I saw that earlier and got it going. Thanks.

I have no X either so I logged in as liveuser and gained root access to look at the logs but there wasn't a Xorg.0.log :(
I'm not going to bother filing a bugreport.

I also had problems installing the iso. When booting the live-image from usb-stick, I was always taken back to the login screen. After disabling selinux at boot time, I was able to log in, but the installer crashed.
I tried again and this time I could install it onto my hard drive. It runs pretty quick compared to the previous nightly builds. System-config-language told me that support for german language isn't ready yet and I also couldn't install the rpm fusion nonfree-repository (not ready yet as well, i suppose).
But I could install vlc and all the rest of the stuff that I wanted without any problems. I've got working sound, but PulseAudio Volume Control doesn't work. Neither does rebooting from console, but that's not a problem related to TC2.

This is my experience with Fedora 17 TC2(XFCE) so far.

Well, this one at least boots to the desktop environment (nice wallpaper) but when I tried to logon it crashed Virtual Box and the F16 host :fp:

Let's see if the enforcing=0 does something magic...

---------- Post added at 07:45 PM ---------- Previous post was at 06:23 PM ----------

Well I got it to boot and it is installing right now.

Some things:

-Trying to partition with btrfs crashes anaconda every time.
-I had disabled hardware virtualization before when I was trying TC1, so after the complete crash I saw that it was off, switched it back on and it didn't crash anymore.
Then I saw some boot message and it was about some microcode update failing. After that it booted just fine but it got me thinking about my own BIOS.

So I looked in the /var/log/message of my physical machine and there was a somewhat similar message:
microcode: failed to load file amd-ucode/microcode_amd_fam15h.bin

So after some searching I found a tar on the AMD site and (against the installation notes) I placed "microcode_amd_fam15h.bin" next to the other microcode file and now that boot error has been replaced with a loaded successfully message.
Of course the virtual F17 machine, that doesn't have that file still shows the error.

I got a new AMD Bulldozer but have never been aware of this.
Could this be a bug or compiling error of the new 3.2 /3.3 kernel?

Not for TCs or RCs, no (unless someone does it unofficially).

i tried booting in any way i could think of, nothing worked. the only one ( Nightly LiveCD ) that works for me is 20120206 Nightly. though there are still issues with it like Nouveau . i might get my logs from that and upload it to Bugzilla.( assuming i dont go to the pub again :D )

with the newer Nightly 20120213 i tried again logging in as Liveuser, that bit worked ok but as soon as it tried to get into X i got Garbled Graphics. my guess it has something to do with the Nouveau DRM errors im getting

only thing i can think of is we may have to wait till they update x-server to RC2 or RC3

Installed f17 by using an f16 netinstall .iso and changing the package repos. Found could not login but saw the above posts and disabled selinux which did the trick.

Not sure what to do about rpmfusion repos which still say Rawhide but that is f18 now I believe?

I got two VMs working with F17. One via the TC2 DVD iso from the OP and one via yum upgrading F16 -> F17 (http://fedoraproject.org/wiki/Upgrading_Fedora_using_yum). The latter took me a while to sort out though. For the TC2, I had to use 'enforcing=0' for the initial login, but not required now after a yum update. Both VM images boot and allow me to login to Gnome-Shell, which by the way, crash a lot in both VMs. Also, my mouse vertical scroller does not work. Though I have first seen this vertical scrolling problem in my other VM running rawhide. Does anyone else having this mouse problem?

Apostate, I just check today and can see rpmfusion mirror list starting to have releasever=17 but it seems there aren't any packages there yet.

Rpmfusion follows a different "path" on their repos.

Fedora branches rawhide, usually right before the alpha, and rawhide becomes the next release, and the release currently being developed is updates-testing.

Rpmfusion waits until later in the release cycle to branch rawhide off, so right now, the rawhide repo in rpmfusion corresponds to the Fedora 17 release cycle, even though the fedora repos have already branched.

Fedora repos: Rawhide = F18, updates-testing = F17
Rpmfusion repos: Rawhide = F17 and no updates-testing for F17 yet.

Heads up

Expect a F17 Alpha RC1 sometime today http://lists.fedoraproject.org/pipermail/devel/2012-February/162732.html

I sure hope the RC1 alpha is better than the 20120214 nightly is.

I get an oops on every boot, it doesn't detect my mouse (standard Logitech mouse, nothing fancy.. just a plain USB mouse), it detects my wacom tablet as a mouse, and in the settings for the wacom tablet, it says there isn't one attached. (it loads wacom.ko for the tablet, but the settings says it doesn't find a wacom tablet)

i'll just be happy if one boots into a DE

well, the 20120214 nightly will boot into the Gnome 3 shell fine (even after getting an oops, something about libdma or something.. I need to look closer at it) .. But, I have no mouse.. I can use my wacom tablet for the mouse, but that's a real PITA.

when i booted that LiveCD least this time i didnt get any DRM Nouveau errors. but it was other errors i got i just didnt see them. the other new errors it just rebooted the computer. thi is the only release i have had trouble with.

Same here.. ALL previous Fedora releases, by this stage of the development cycle, I have had very good results with them. F17 has been a pain in the butt. Nothing but problems with it. If this is an indicator of how the release is going to be, I will probably be skipping F17 (This would be a first for me, I have run every Fedora release and every redhat release back to 4.1 in 1997.)

im still hoping its just that they need to update there X-Server from RC1 of 1.12 to RC2 or 3 which should fix the problem.

Since I had downloaded the netinstall iso for TC2, after finding the same problem of not being able to log in, i just re-installed my VM. Problem solved for me :)

Currently my f17 does not see my sound card. That apart XFCE seems to be quite smooth - keyboard has gone crazy under Gnome though with many keys producing the wrong characters :D

Hello Fedorapeople!

My Experiences at the moment..

1. It was possible to install Fedora with the nightly from 13FEB - Yeaahh!

2. It was possible to install the WLAN Firmware b43, but NetworkManager donīt ask me for a Password.. canīt add this

Apllications
3. Chrome is Crashing at start
4. Canīt install gnucash (goffice depencies)
5. bareftp is crashing at start
6. Gnome-Shell is crashing from time to time (opensource ati driver)

7. yum update does not work - no repo.md file https://bugzilla.redhat.com/show_bug.cgi?id=790530
I did edit the fedora.repo file and insert the baseurl (from a development mirror) like
http://fedora.c3sl.ufpr.br/linux/development/17/i386/os/ that will help to update the latest packages - and comment # the mirror metalink line
other mirrors are here: http://mirrors.fedoraproject.org/publiclist/Fedora/17/i386/

Cheers, Mario

Fedora 17 alpha rc1 installation images are here (http://dl.fedoraproject.org/pub/alt/stage/17-Alpha.RC1/Fedora/). The live images still need some time it seems.

http://lists.fedoraproject.org/pipermail/test/2012-February/105568.html

I didn't try F17 pre-alpha yet, but I will in a few hours or tomorrow, with either gnome or xfce live image.

Edit: the installation image from above folders are not considered to be alpha rc1. The folder name is just a bit misleading :bang: (see link from tox`s reply below)

no mention of what the bug is that triggered a RC2 so quick, though.

Have you seen anything in your watching of the dev mailing list?
