You need to provide some basic information for anyone to help you.
Open a terminal, log in as root and post the results of these commands:
su -give your password then run:
cat /boot/grub2/grub.cfgthen, still as root, run this:
fdisk -lWith that information, someone may be able to assist you.

So, back up your data, read up on the installation instructions at the FedoraProject link (above) and install it. Make sure you have no more than 4 primary partitions on your hard drive when you've installed it and make sure you don't allow it to overwrite your Windows partitions. Just look over your installation options and you should be fine. You may want to check this installation guide out:
http://www.mjmwired.net/resources/mjm-fedora-f16.html#install
Grub2 will become the bootloader and should easily recognize Windows7 and Fedora once the installation's done.

You have booted through a live-cd and as is shows raw 500gb hard drive, you fear that it amounts to not recognising your windows partition. Is this correct?

Are you trying to install Fedora 16 from the live boot disk or just trying to look at your Windows 7 partitions on the live disk without installing?

Are you using the bittlocker encryption on the Windows 7 partition?
My guess without looking at the error is that something is being overlooked or some sort of encryption is causing issues.
Post that error when you can.
Also here is some info about partitions: http://docs.fedoraproject.org/en-US/Fedora/16/html/Installation_Guide/s1-diskpartitioning-x86.html

error is:
storage device warning
pci-0000:00:1f.2-scsi-0:0:0:0
we could not detect partitions or filesystems on this device
and then it ask that it may contain useful data whether to discard any data or keep it.........
this was the error i figure out when i boot feora 16 DVD........................ instead of partition table it show the dialogue box containing this error.... when i go forward either it format whole disk to install fedora as base system or show a single hard drive without any partitions created by win7 installed side wise.....................

I'm pretty sure that drive is encrypted. Try going into the control panel in Windows 7 and clicking on BitLocker Drive Encryption and disabling it then reboot into the Fedora16 disk and see what it does.

Did it work for you?

Hi, I'm new on this forum but I've switched from windows to fedora about 1 year ago and the only regret is not having done it before ...
I have successfully installed fedora 16 along with windows 7 ultimate without bitlocker feature. Now I want to install f16 on my work laptop with windows 7 enterprise installed with bitlocker. I resized disk size to leave 150 GB for that purpose but I can't turn off bitlocker because I have no permission for that. If I have well understood, grub is not compatible with bitlocker and modifying MBR will cause windows not to boot, is it correct ?
If so, is there a way to resolve this problem or my work laptop is condamned to be a good 'coffee grinder' forever .. :bang:
Bye.

If you want to disable BitLocker you have to login in as Administrator. You can do this by entering safe mode (press F8 before windows boots, choose Safe Mode from the list) and loggining in with Administrator. If no one has set any password for Administrator you'll be able to disable BitLocker. There are some tools to remove administrator's password, let us know if you need one. Also, you can check in Control Panel at the Windows functionalities, you may want to uncheck BitLocker from there so it'll be totally uninstalled from the system (you can check it again and it'll be reinstalled, if you need it).
Remember that encryption has occurred for ever since you have used the pc with BitLocker activated, so de-encrypting files on your system might take a while; don't turn off your pc during the process for any reason, or you may loose any in-progress data.

Thanks for your reply, more or less I guessed that, considering that this is not my own pc but I'm the only user, I just wanted to use if for something else than communicator and outlook...
if I had administrator's password I could do that...I'll find it !

are the partitions dynamic? you can find out by right-click my computer icon in windows>manage>disk management.
If they are, then you have to convert them to basic partitions, which may lead to data loss. risky path. tread with caution
