View Full Version : Annoying Mozilla bug: boxes/bars in tooltips

Ever browsed some thread listings in these forums with Mozilla/Firefox and hovered over the link? A tool tip appears, but where there should be a new line there is a weird box or bar. This is a bug. (https://bugzilla.mozilla.org/show_bug.cgi?id=67127)

This is a result of an unfortunate misunderstanding between the standard for html data types (http://www.w3.org/TR/html401/types.html#h-6.2) and what it means for unprintable newline characters.

This forum is standard XHTML, and Mozilla mostly renders according to the standard. Unfortunately, I can't see multiple lined title attribute tooltips. Internet Explorer as usual just does what it feels like, but does manage to get multiple lines.

Show your support for this bug. Voting for it would be appreicated. Please don't overwhelm the comment system unless you have something to add to the discussion: vote instead.

If this is fixed my forum experience will be just a little bit better.

I can't get a screen shot for some reason.

When you hover over something with a title attribute, you get a tooltip. Only Mozilla doesn't render the next line characters like it would on the page. Instead, you get weird characters, boxes with characters in them or black bars on Windows. See the linked bug for what it looks like on Windows. It happens frequently when hovering over search results on this forum.
