Is it posible to get a touch screen to work with Fedora Core 3 or any other Linux distro for that matter, with full touch screen functionality? My brother is planning on installing a computer in his car [when he finally gets around to buying a new one.] we both want to know if Fedora would be suitable for this and what steps we may need to take to set up Fedora [or another distro.] to work with a touch screen.

Also has fedora implemented any hibernate or sleep type features that are SAFE to use?

This is just a question, how is this touch screen be use? same as law enforcement? they have their patrol cars equipped with such hardware. Or are you talking like bank atm touch screens? or for similiar use....

so pda are equipped with linux software now....the sharp zaurus is one.

I think it deopends on the touch screen system.. I currently have a PAnasonic CF27 (ex law enforcement laptop) mounted in my S10 4x4 (Truck info) (http://kf6kmx.net/index.php?id=1,0,0,1,0,0) , I'm running FC2 on it, but have not found drivers to get the touch screen back online (worked in Win2k, WinXP also has no drivers for it).
I've been playing with the idea of getting a dedicated car computer SlimPro (http://www.cappuccinopc.com/slimpro.asp) and a small touch screen monitor to mount..

I use the mobile system for APRS mostly (APRS location of truck) (http://map.findu.com/kf6kmx-12)

I've read that in the kernel 2.6 many touchscreen devices won't work. Maybe on recent kernels it's fixed, but I know that touchscreen pointers works as mouse pointers do, so because of the rewrite of mouse drivers on the new psaux system, many touchscreen devices were affected. You should check with a recent live distro if your touchscreen will work, prefferably before the purchase.

Good idea, but will a store actually lt me boot the live cd so I can test to see if it works....I didn't know 2.6 kernels borked touch screens where did you find out about that? Do you happen to know if the last major kernel version 2.4 I think it was will work?

The way I look at it, if the store wants to make a sale, they need to let you boot a live cd.. The live cd doesnt alter the laptop right? So all they have to loose is a sale and commision!

true, I'll have to tell my brother then...I don't have a car at all yet I'm just helping him out with his research, hopefully we can get linux working and further free ourselves from the EVUL microsoft..besides it'd be so 1337 to have Linux running in your car while everyone else does windows....
