View Full Version : Older FC kernels? Why is no-one archiving them on the Net?

Anyone noticed that for, say, FC2, you can only download the original CD/DVD kernel RPM, the latest kernel RPM and the next-to-latest kernel RPM, but *no others* ? Is anyone actually keeping an archive of all the released kernel RPM updates, cos I sure as heck can't find one!

Note that I seem to remember Red Hat keeping all their kernel updates available for download, so I'm surprised not to find an FC kernel archive anywhere, but I could be wrong of course...

the kernel is being developed continuously and a stable version is released every once in a while.
There was a website where you can find every single test or stable kernel release for fedora. But I can't remember where it was. aarghh. my memory is worse than a trashcan.

This is a topic I'm wondering about as well. My FC2 2.6.5 kernel is missing some features needed for an Oracle install and, though I've managed to find a 2.6.8 kernel on an outdated mirror site, it is missing them as well. I'm currently looking for a 2.6.9 kernel since I believe it has the required features but I can't go to 2.6.10 since it breaks my VPN client. :(

If anyone knows where we can find archived kernel RPMs, please help!

Dang, I had them all but just deleted them last week when FC2 got moved to legacy. I didn't realise they weren't kept permenantly in updates. Sorry guys :(

kernel.org does keep a mirror (http://mirrors.kernel.org/fedora/), but like the main site the updates contain the last two kernels only.

Somebody involved in the build process may archive them, but I doubt it.

Good thing I burn updated to cd-r. The only 2.6.9 kernel version for FC2 I have is 2.6.9-1.3_fc2. I don't know if this will help you out, or how you can retrieve the files, but I am willing to send you the RPMs if you like. My only other suggestion would be to check every single mirror site and hope that one has the kernel you are looking for.

The kernels are also kept at the fedora project data server. (http://download.fedora.redhat.com/pub/fedora/linux/core/updates/3/SRPMS/) Search according to your version.

No they're not, not any more - that's the point. Only the last couple are there, older versions are gone.

To follow up on this, I was looking for an older sourcecode kernel and just had some success at http://rpm.pbone.net/ by just searching for 'kernel' (specifying which distribution as well, and the 'Search for rpms by name' option checked). It brought back versions of 2.6.5 all the way to the most recent. Hope that helps!

the source for all kernels is located at http://www.kernel.org/pub/
