If you use Firefox to search rpm package, it can be used as an installer.
- Click the rpm package you want to download,
- Firefox will ask you the method of downloading, select install package
- Add/Remove package will be open and let you know the selected package will be installed
- Click ok
I haven't tested with synaptic yet. However, that method should work with it.
