So, I installed Fedora 16 earlier this morning and never got the prompt to select which type of install I wanted, or what packages for that matter and now have a ton of crap installed that I have no use for... Its as though it skipped that option on the installer, I see it in guides but never see it during an install for some reason.

Beyond that would it be detrimental in any ways to install directly over that with a new copy, im not sure how finicky linux is but I know installing one over the other on Windows can cause havoc.

Thanks

It should be just after you select the storage device.

AFAIK you can only choose what to install if you use the DVD. Just run: 'yum erase application' to uninstall a program.

It shouldn't be a problem, I've done it many times.

I am using the Live DvD and selecting to install to hard drive, it goes from set partitions to copying image, there is NO option for selecting what I want to install.

There is no live 'DVD', only a CD. And IIRC the DVD actually states that it is installing the packages, the livecd says that it is copying the image

I mean't LiveCD, I burned it to a DVD so my brain kinda mashed'em together. I am assuming that the option to select waht you want to install is not available with the Live CD and I am now downloading the DVD which will hopefully allow me to customize the package selections prior to install.

That's right :) BTW you may actually want to install fedora with the livecd, uninstall stuff you don't want, then install the stuff you do want. That way you don't have to update as much and just get the latest of everything (also saving a heck of a lotta bandwidth).

I'd rather just be able to intensively select what I want on install so that I don't wind up uninstalling something important and causing some sort of catastrophic problem. Bandwidth is no problem im at like 3/1.5 down/up and no cap on bandwidth used so...

Thanks for the help.

I feel the same way which is why I ALWAYS grab the install DVD rather than the LiveCD.

There are a few other reasons I get the DVD as well, but the main one is so that I can choose what packages I want to install.
