I have been having issues with a distributed computing project "Folding@Home" as reported in another post on this forum. My finished work units were not able to be transmitted back to Stanford University. I have tried lots of things to remedy this situation but they would not reliably go from my linux box since I switched to cable broadband.

Then today I was reading a few posts and noticed:

http://www.fedoraforum.org/forum/showthread.php?t=26220

...a user having problems sending ftp packets above 1.4K in size. Dog One suggested the troubled user modify a parameter in the ifcfg-eth0 file to limit maximum transfer unit size because of a possible bug in the cable modem. When I got home and tried it here it seems to have worked for me too with the work units for Folding@Home. My completed units are now successfully getting to Stanford.

This advise from this forum is, IMNSHO, the very best that can be found on the net. The Administrators, Moderators and Users provide a resource that is truly invaluable and I for one am extremely grateful for all of the help I receive here.

Well done Dog One and well done all, :)

It takes a lot of time to answer so many questions posted every day and I really respect all those who are helping. It really takes very much time and so it reflects a little bit their everyday doings, it is one part of the day, I hope that you/they enjoy it. I hope you don't get tired of it, take some rest sometimes.

Big, big thank you!

:)

PS. I have learnt so much during the period of being fedoraforum.org's user thanks to you all!

Moved to suggestion and feedback.

And thank you. We really do love it when people are appreciative.

And remember folks, so does developers, code-monkeys, translators, mothers, kernel hackers and cleaning ladies. If you find a piece of software or similar you enjoy, send an email to the developer or mailing list if there is one and thank them for their work.

Thanks. My only fear is that I don't post anywhere near as much as I used to. :(

Now that you're successfully submitting work units to Folding@Home--all I can say is catch me if you can (http://vspx27.stanford.edu/teamstats/team37988.html). :D

Fat chance of that partner! But I'll give ya a run fer yer money if'n I can :D

BTW just had another unit successfully get back to Stanford, so it looks like your suggestion has indeed worked. I'm going to post this solution on the FAH board...giving credit where it is due of course! Lots of folks there are having the same problem and I have not seen this proposed as a solution.

Thanks again for all your help.
