Hi everybody
if have an MSI 6702 (aka K8T Neo-FIS2R) with an AMD Athlon64 3000+ . I have the latest bios installed (ver 1.8) and cool and quiet is activated in bios. Now i did an fresh install of Fedora-Core 3 (for x86_64). My problem now is that powernow does not work. I get the following message in my syslog:
root@rockerduck linux-2.6.9]# dmesg | grep powernow
powernow-k8: Found 1 AMD Athlon 64 / Opteron processors (version 1.00.09b)
powernow-k8: BIOS error: numpst must be 1
Searching the web for this error messages brings results that there is an bios implementation error (as the message itselfs says). There are numerous patches floating around to solve this problem, even on the fedora mailing-list (http://www.redhat.com/archives/fedora-test-list/2004-May/msg01499.html). There it is stated that later kernel should contain a fix for that. however i am already running the latest kernel for fedora-core. The strange thing is when i run linux-2.6.9-rc3-mm3 (i know its old) under debian powernow is working (and also reports a different version number). However i am a bit scared of trying to run a "stock" kernel like 2.6.10-rc2-mm1 (where i belive this is also fixed) on my fedora-system, as fedora uses a heavily patched kernel (selinux and other stuff) and i fear my system will break when using other than fedora supplied kernels.
So does anyone have the same problem and a solution ?
