View Full Version : Corrupted install? help...

Though my own Fedora 15 computer is fine, a second installation on a computer I've built for my sister has gone awry not long after finishing setting it up and Updating. Gnome 3 won't boot, though I get the timer on the light blue background for a bit.

The last two siginificant events are that I added LXDE as an alternative choice of desktop, which didn't go wrong on my own computer, and also though it had been fine for one boot, a modest overclocking setting chosen in the BIOS was listed as failed on the screen. The next time I rebooted was the first time after this overclocking failure and the LXDE installation so I don't know which, if any, might be the problem. Could an ooverclocking failure cause this?

I'm not keen to reinstall - though I'm a confirmed Fedora man now it has been quite laborious compared to Ubuntu.

If I press ESC at the point where the computer hangs this message is on the screen a few times: edid checksum invalid remainder 128

There was also: VGA-1 probed a monitor but nolin.

Can I do something like boot into a terminal even though Fedora 15's Gnome 3 desktop won't start, and uninstall LXDE if need be? If so how, and what commands exactly? Or has anyone here any other idea?

As I've only been using Fedora a little while after two and a half years of Ubuntu quite exact and assumption-free directions are what I need.

Thanks very much.

I'm also fairly sure the computer isn't damaged/physically at fault as I've successfully run two live CDs of other distros since the issue.

I'll give this till the end of today and then install another OS, not to flee Fedora but to avoid having to get codecs and to need less Updates. If anyone has any ideas do please let me know.

Thanks.
