Hi

Has someone got sound problems with last Fedora 16 Alpha TC1 ?

With my Acer 6930g i don't hear nothing from PC speakers; if the hearphones are connected, it works.

is this a regression? i.e. does it work in f15? can you go to 'Sound Settings' and check the Hardware and Output tabs, see if there's a switch there that helps?

Hi Adam

is this a regression?

Yes; in Fedora 15 the audio works also with the lastest kernel 2.6.40.

can you go to 'Sound Settings' and check the Hardware and Output tabs, see if there's a switch there that helps?

In Sound Settings, the 'Selected Device' is Analog Output Duplex as usual; the audio volume is high; in order to hear something is necessary connect the headphone.

With older kernel versions, I have read of users who claim they have successfully used the "acer-aspire-4930g" option instead of the "acer" option with a 6930G. I do not know if that model option is relevant here but I do note you have the 'acer' model option applied.

For the record, the model options for the ALC888 (which you have on your 6930G) are:

ALC882/883/885/888/889

I also forgot to suggest that you try this without any model option being specified .... its possible that the alsa driver that comes with the 3.0.0-3.fc16.x86_64 kernel can correctly audio configure your card and does not need the 'acer' option specified. Apologies if you have already tried this, but I can not tell from your 1st post.

I've followed the advise of oldcpu.

In modprobe.conf added:

options snd-hda-intel model=acer-aspire-4930greboot and audio has returned back to work :)

Oddly however because in Fedora 15 was sufficient 'acer' option.

Thank you.
