I posted earlier that the test sound was all garbled, but that other sounds, like xmms worked. Well, every few seconds, xmms gets choppy. So, I was wondering if anyone knew what this problem could be? someone had posted something about alsa and arts both competing for resources. Does anyone know where to look to see if 2 sound subsystems are both enabled?

Thanks.

Another update on this - I don't think alsa is installed on my system, even though alsa looks to be the default on all sound applications. I went to Preferences -> More Preferences -> Multimedia Systems Selector, and alsa was the chosen system on both tabs. When I try a test on either choice, an error message pops up without any sound. Also, gnome-alsamixer wasn't installed on my system when I did the install, I had to add it with yum (I installed everything from the DVD). Plus, when I run gnome-alsamixer and change options, they go back to the default the next time I run gnome-alsamixer. Anybody know how I can check to see if alsa is installed and running?

I downloaded alsaplayer via synaptic and it's doing the very choppy sound problem, just like the soundcard detection test sound. So, it looks like the sound problem is due to alsa.

i think it is about kernel-module-alsa and alsa-driver packages. we should install them but i couldnt get it. because there is a depend. problem.

/dev/snd
/dev/snd/hwC0D0
these are missing files. i dont know how we can fix it.

dev-3.3.13-1.i386.rpm package provides these files but it have confilict with kde and gnome and also gives this message when i tried install manually without synaptic:

Cannot install the dev package: mounted devfs detected.
hata: %pre(dev-3.3.13-1.i386) scriptlet failed, exit status 1
hata: install: %pre scriptlet failed (2), skipping dev-3.3.13-1

i am waiting for help too:)
