What is the recommended upgrade method for going to FC2? I've downloaded the cd's, but I'd really like to just use apt-get or even plain 'ol rpm to cleanly update everything I've got installed and keep my configs, etc. intact.

I did an ftp install using a spare computer to serve up the files on my local network. That seemed to speed things up a bit as you can read from the network faster than from a CD.

The upgrade went without a hitch and I was able to keep my home directory and such. I did have to resolve a few rpm dependency problems after the install but it was pretty easy using apt. I just had apt remove the offending apps and then re-installed them.

So over-all it went pretty well. Better than any other upgrade I've ever done especially from Win98 to Win2k on a clients machine. Bleh! I won't ever do that again... even for money.

I've done my server (redhat 9 --> FC2), and laptop (FC1 --> FC2) both went very well with no data loss. (Of course I backed both up beforehand just in case)

Now I'm just waiting for a simple (no kernel recompile) solution for nVidia drivers so I can upgrade my main desktop and game machine to FC2 (currently using FC1), but no rush.
