i recently installed fedora 15 with gnome environment
but an error occured saying that gnome cannot be installed
how can i get gnome desktop
and how can i add icons to desktop

I think you mean Gnome 3 is not working, in which case it is running under fallback mode (Gnome 2.xx).

To add icons to the desktop, install 'gnome-tweak' from the software repository. Open it, choose File Manager in the left column, and toggle 'Have file manager handle the desktop' to ON.
