Java 7 is slated for release on July 27 and is currently available as a developer preview. I proposed it for inclusion in Fedora 16 here: http://fedoraproject.org/wiki/Features/Java7, but I presently have neither the time nor the knowledge to help build it.
The deadline for proposing it for release is tomorrow, July 12. I'm posting this here so that if someone wants Java 7 included enough to help build the feature or track down someone who would can do so; otherwise Java 6 will be in Fedora nearly 11 (!) months after Java 7 is released. If you want to propose it for release, see http://fedoraproject.org/wiki/Features/Policy.

Feature Freeze is the 26th of this month so it can still get in. https://fedoraproject.org/wiki/Releases/16/Schedule

I can't imagine why that would be a problem. Java 7 is already available for download in near-final form, and it will be released long before Fedora 16 is even in alpha. Gnome 3.2 (which is a F16 feature) won't be done until September 28.
I really think this is an important feature for Fedora to have.

bring it up on the devel-list and someone there should approve of it or go into Freenode on fedora-devel and someone there will look at it
