Hi
I'll keep this simple....Riiiiiigggggt woodsmoke( I can hear THAT now! :D ) .

I was really rather blown away when I first saw the "application structure" for Gnome3.

The very first thing that I thought of was the applications in the menu on my Android(the very first original and still perking away).

Vertical integration through all hardware platforms is "the big thing" today and I think that it will be crucial over the next few years in terms of who "gets onto the ...."

I teach college biology and the school really is state of the art in terms of "IT". The students started appearing with laptops :) when the VERY IMPORTANT University down the road was concentrating on having "card sliders" on their candy machines instead of wifi everywhere.

Then it was "netbooks" and now it is all netbooks and the tablets are beginning to appear.

One of the "sign language" assistants who sat in class for a hearing impaired student this last semester brought a VERY HEAVEY and early tablet. :D

Why is this? Very simple, size, weight, convenience in terms of a backpack and that will translate into briefcases and large purses when they graduate.

I've fiddled with both Unity and Gnome3 for the last months and I think that Gnome3 "may" have the best shot at being workable on all of the platforms from cell phone to desktop.

In terms of a cell phone, the images for the applications now would translate very well into that size. In terms of a tablet they are already well proportioned to translate to a size for the tablet.

When someone figures out a way to have an onscreen keyboard "pop" like on the Android, it could be game, set and match.

I just wish I had a tablet upon which to experiment! :D

But, again, I think that Gnome3 could do it.

GREAT JOB DEVELOPERS AND COMMUNITY... .you are to be congratulated in every way! :)

It is curious that this appeared the day after my post but it illustrates the point exactly.

The point of the article is 7 images of how (Ipads) read possible Linux tablets are being used to connect people in business and social ways.

And, Fedora(Gnome3) could do all of them.

Please take a look at the top image of a "business person" standing and using the tablet.

There is also a slide show of the seven ways that show how tablets and social stuff is coalescing.

But, again, the REAL problem is getting the OS on the hardware. And, I think Gnome3 could be the way to get a toe in the door of one of the tablet makers.

An OS that is completely scalable through the hardware "should" be a real selling point to a computer/tablet maker.

After all, that is what Apple and MS are trying/doing already.

So again, I COMMEND the developers and wonderful community here that are making the attempt.
