I believe gnome-pilot will (may) work. Just right-click the panel and select Add to panel -> Utility -> Panel Applet and go from there.

I've heard Evolution may work.

This page: http://plg.uwaterloo.ca/~migod/techie/clieLinux.html has more details.

I've tried syncing my Tungsten|E through the usb cable with no luck in Evolution and Gnome Pilot. I have selected all available choices for connections with no success. Any suggestions? I would like to use it with Evolution.

I sync my Tungsten/T everyday. It works fine. Using pilot-link and jpilot. Although I have used kpilot successfully. The actual communication is by pilot-link so it shouldn't matter what interface you use. Gnome Pilot, Kpilot and Jpilot all use pilot-link for the communications with the unit. The key is to get pilot-link working. There is a pilot-link maillist that was helpful when I first got started. It is sometimes sensitive to the order that you push the sync button and then tell the app to sync. My previous palm an m130 worked the other way around. Program sync first, then push sync button. Also, when you plug into the usb port it will use to ports, usually usb0 and usb1. You will have to set pilot-link to one or the other until it works. Again, get pilot-link working. The rest will be easy.

I've tried every port and have not been successful. What is everyone's experience trying to sync their palm os device with Fedora? I would like to get it working with Evolution if possible.

I am able to sync my TungstenT on FC1, but I never got my Palm V to be reconized by the USB subsystem. Using Gnome-Pilot Applet.

Check your syslog. If you are getting a message simular to this one - your device is being seen.
..
usb.c: USB device 2 (vend/prod 0x545/0x8080) is not claimed by any active driver.
..
If you have a message like this you only need to find the correct usb device and serial driver to finish the connection. Using a real Serial-Port (ie. com1 like) may be another option.

This is the link I used to help me recognize the Tungsten |E. I get GnomePilot working, and it retrieves the existing name I have already but Evolution does not like it for some reason. As soon as I hotsync it, the palm starts and finishes.

Another thing is I don't know why from the instructions, that I need to do it again after rebooting my system. Doesn't linux remember all this? Or is there a place that I need to create a "startup" alias like windows or os x?

Serpico, the upgrade of FC2 may reset your gnome pilot settings - that's what happened to my setup and I experienced the same problem: the Palm starting up, syncing briefly and then stopping.

To fix this particular problem:
1) Start Evolution
2) Click on Tools -> Pilot Settings
3) Click on the Conduits tab and set up synchronisation.

For those of you having problems getting gnome-pilot to connect to your PDA, try using "/dev/ttyUSBx" (where x is a number, e.g. /dev/ttyUSB1, /dev/ttyUSB2) as the device and select USB as the device type. You may need to limit the speed to 56700.

Got my Sony Clie PEG T415 working with...gnome-pilot and synching to Evolution.

I first followed the tutorial by Thomas Chung posted on FedoraNews.org. Google Tutorial: gnome-pilot. It's one page and very easy to follow.

Then, on my Clie, I went to Prefs-->Connection-->Cable/Cradle and selected "Edit" and then "Details". I then set the speed to 9600 bps.

Next, on my computer I went to Preferences-->More Preferences --> Palm OS Devices. Under the Devices tab I selected my Clie and used the Edit button to select the speed to 9600 bps. I also had to edit the name to "Cable/Cradle" so that it matched my Clie.

Lastly, I moved my mouse to an empty spot on the panel, right-clicked and selected "Add to panel --> Utility --> Pilot Applet".

Once this was done, I pressed the hot-sync button and heard the familiar electronic tone and IT WORKED!

Hope this helps. Thanks to all those who helped me.

Are you using fc3? if so it looks like there is a bug on udev.

I got this working first using gnome-pilot to set up the conduits. I also used the tutorial that many people have linked to. I would advise you to make sure of a few things, though, in order to make this all work properly.

When setting everything up, I found it the most helpful to shut down the machine and bring it back up with the clie in the cradle (or attached via USB or whatever). I also started every program from the command line when I was using the clie with it for the first time. That was I was able to copy all of the output to a file using the 'tee' command (e.g. 'evolution | tee evolution.clie.sync.out').

I must admit, though, that I have not tried this in FC3. I gave up on using a PDA after about 2 months of using one. However, evolution provided the fastest sync operation I have encountered on any platform.

i have fc3 with the 67 kernel. with the 81 kernel it wont even sync. I followed the tutorial and it backs up and stuff. but it does not sync with evolution only with jpilot.

On evolution under pilotsettings-> conduits I only show three. I reinstalled evolution-pilot but i still dont get the calendar conduits.

Does anyone know how to fix this or know of a link were i can get the rpms or tars for the conduits for evolution?

thanks
