First off I realise Core 3 just came out but my dvd-r is at uni and im home for a week to try and setup unix and ive only got core2!

Ok here come the stupid questions:

First off i get a text based login, i login there with the user account I created for myself, then login with the same accoutn again at the GUI login ... is this wrong?! Do you login root then me ...?

At the moment im having some severe performance issues, the PC is a 2200+ with 1.25 gig of ram its on a kt 400 asus mobo ... when i finally login everything takes an age to load and animate .. ive not installed any gfx drivers yet because of my next problem.

The onboard NIC or a PCI slot NIC both hang the bootup at the networking part, if I setup the ip myself on the install it eventually boots but i cant really tell whats going on then becos the performance is pretty tedious.

HELP!

You do not need to log in twice, or as root first. Just one session as your user. If you selected the graphical login eventally the login screen will appear.
