Hi, I am still attempting to get my printer working with fc 2. It is a Canon MPc 190. One of these multi function things, copier, scanner and printer.
Maybe I can use bjc 600 drivers for it (someone else has apparently)
However, my troubles are that the device is not even detected, I have used the printing set up and have it as connected locally to /dev/usb/lp0 and have tried /dev/usb/lp1, both return the same result, nothing, just the error meassage 'unable to open usb device'
I have changed the permissions on these to 777, probably did not need to, but tried anyway. It made no difference.
It shows up in the hardware browser, under system devices. Canon Inc MPC 190. Driver unknown.
In the usb devices there are 4 items, I have these devices connected,
Palm cradle (working),
Easy hard disk (30 gb usb drive) working.
Printer, not working,
UPS power protection (no software installed as yet)
These appear in usb devices as
82801DB (ICH4) USB2 EHCI Controller,
82801DB (ICH4) USB UHCI #1
82801DB (ICH4) USB UHCI #2
82801DB (ICH4) USB UHCI #3
Where should I go from here to find out what is (not) going on?
Thanks.

hi ailmarfarm,
Have you tried turboprint? http://www.turboprint.de/english.html
I would give it a try.
I'm using it too and it works fine with my printer.
Download it and install it as root.

Thanks for the link, downloaded and installed.
However, turboprint says device not connected, or cannot open device (or something like that)
Have tried using MPC 190 driver and dev/usblp0, /dev/usblp1, /dev/usb/lp0 and /dev/usb/lp1.
All give the same result, it seems for some reason Fedora cannot communicate with my printer. It was the same with CUPS.
Hope I can get this worked out. Thanks again for your help.

Hello again,
Could it be a Hardware Problem? Does the Printer works in Windows?
Or have you change the usb- cable with an other one just to be sure that it is not damaged.

And you should know that Canon don't really cares about Linux support. So I think it will be very hard
to get this printer work.

Greetings

I dual boot with Windows XP, the printer is fine in Windows. It just seems to me that there might be someting I can do to get it working in FC 2, if I cannot, then I guess I will have to continue doing all my printing from Windows, at least I have a usb hard disk I can share with Windows and FC2 and can access most files from either os.
Thanks for your help anyway.
