I have recently built a new budget PC and because of thei had to buy a MB that has onboard sound lan and video.

Everything work ok except the sound. I'm using FC2 and using KDE. The sound card gets detected using the graphical detection utility and when i play test sound i hear the sound but it is distorted (like it is playing at a low sample rate) and sounds real bad. The card specs in th MOBO manula are as follow, VIA 1617A Codec 5.1 channel AC'97 software Audio.

The soundcard detection utility says it is using these models VT8233/A/8235/8237 AC 97 Audio Controller | and the module it is using is : snd-via82xx

I have tried all the various options in the KDE control centre and searched through the post and used google. The only problems other people seem to have is no sound at all, which is not my problem at all, though i had to work that bit out on my old FC2 box.

Could anyone please give me some help??????

fixed the problem. i don't know what the problem was but if you encounter similar problems you download the Alsa source code from here http://www.alsa-project.org/
and complile it on your system. Restart your computer and and with luck, like mine , it will work.
