View Full Version : Prefixed localstatedir (/var) FHS-conform?

Hey guys,

I've already opened a Bug-report at Red Hat but since they take their time, I'd like to get some opinions of other Packagers.

GNU says that localstatedir (normally /var) is prefixed, so a ./configure;make w/o explicit --prefix or --localstatedir arguments will normally end in /usr/local/var, which is - in my opinion - a violation of the Filesystem Hierarchy Standard (there is no /var under /usr/local - not even under /usr).

This is the Bug-report, which includes a further explanation, examples and the links to the GNU and FHS definitions: https://bugzilla.redhat.com/show_bug.cgi?id=702769

btw. Red Hat is explicitly defining /var in his rpmdev macros and I personllay tend to trust them. Anyway, a clarification/opinions would be appreciated. :)

Thank you very much!
