View Full Version : [SOLVED] Problems: Fedora on Thinkpad T420

I have a new Thinkpad T420 on which I'm trying to run Fedora.

I tried the F14 Live CD first. It seemed to be working: I got the blue screen with progress indicator that gradually went to 100%. However, after that the screen went blank and it never returned.

I tried F13 (installed DVD to disk) and got further. I was able to install and log in. However, there's a major problem: none of the network hardware is recognized. A secondary problem is that the monitor (1362x768) is not recognized, so I'm using 1024x768.

If anyone can offer some help, it will be appreciated.

I have a partial solution: I downloaded and installed the microcode from
http://intellinuxwireless.org/iwlwifi/downloads/iwlwifi-6050-ucode-9.201.4.1.tgz
(I have the Advanced-N + WiMAX 6250)
This gave me wireless access on Fedora 13, so I'm doing a yum update.

Still no *wired* network access, though.

I also have Intel HD Graphics 3000, which isn't recognized.

If I were you I'd avoid F13 (too old) and would be trying F15-RC2.

The firmware(not microcode) for your wifi is in the Fedora package
yum install iwl6050-firmware
which would probably have been automatically in stalled IF your wifi was powered on during install.

For your screen - post the output of the two commands.
xrandr
find /sys -name edid | grep LVD | xargs edid-decode
please. It's a bit long.

Your Wired connection is supposed to be an intel 82577LM.
I have he same in my T510 and it works out of the box in F14. F13 drivers may be too old.

stevea: thanks for the reply. I'm downloading F15 beta now and will try out later today.

Looks like Fedora 15 beta works fine. Haven't fully tested but I don't see any problems so far.

Thanks for the suggestion, stevea.

I have IBM Think Pad L420, I have tried installing F16 and F15 both,.. Dual Boot with Windows 7, and both do not seem to work for me. In Fedora 16, it gives me Installation and Upgrade Menu and stucks afterwards, And in F15 it loads vmlinuz and kernel modules and stucks later on on the same screen. I tried to view Alt+F2,F3,F4 .. but nothing there.

I want to install Fedora 14/15/16 whichever works on IBM ThinkPad L420. Any known issue?
Specs:
Intel® Core™ i7-2620M (2.70 GHz)
14.0" HD (1366 x 768)
Intel® Integrated HD Graphics

I tried:
1. noacpi
2. Lower resolution
3. Change SATA mode to 'Compatibility' from 'AHCI' and change back.
4. Google
and other basic troubleshooting tricks, but nothing seem to work. Kindly share your views and solutions that can work!

Do you think someone alive is here? :C last post 2011 year it's just not marked as solved.
But I've suggestion for you, this one problem appeared for me every time when HD have "incorrect" structure. And if you already have win7 i think it was created in some way automatically. So check your HD structure.
