View Full Version : Full-screen flash video -- not possible?

In both Chrome and Firefox, it seems I cannot properly maximize flash video.

I should state from the get go that my setup is different than usual -- I have dual monitors, and perhaps this has something to do with it, but I'm not sure.

Anyway, waht happens if I click "maximize" in any video in either browser is the video does indeed maximize to the full screen, but BEHIND the browser. If I try to move the browser (or God forbid -- minimize it!!!), the maximized video disappears and pops back into the browser. Basically this means no full screen flash videos, which totally sucks.

(On a unrelated note, I do like the general concept of Gnome 3.0, but I think they've gone a bit overboard by getting rid of the maximize and minimize buttons, and not having a dock akin to Windows' dockbar, which I personally find to be the best one out there).

Yeah, so can anyone else tell me if they're able to view full screen flash?

One thing I should also clarify -- I installed the tweak tool to put maximize and minimize buttons back where they properly belong. Either minimizing or moving the browser causes the same behavior... flash pops back into the browser from full screen.

I have the same problem too. It's not just Fedora 15, it's whenever you turn Compiz off, flash videos (with the exception of youtube) go to fullscreen in the background behind the browser. I have experienced this problem on every single computer I've installed either Fedora or Ubuntu on, with compiz turned off, including F15.

Since F15 doesn't come with compiz by default, this is going to be a big problem. Especially since no one seems to be addressing it, as though its a minor issue. (There are bug reports, however, I'm not sure if the problem has been addressed adequately).

There are multiple work arounds, most of them don't even work, or work only half the time. This is unacceptable, and might be a major factor in my choice of migrating to another distro or even a another operating system.

That's strange, fullscreen flash video works great for me. 64 bit F15, installed 64 bit Flash using http://forums.fedoraforum.org/showthread.php?t=205642

I remember the Flash-behind-the-browser problem from running Ubuntu Lucid. If I moved the pointer over to the flash (don't click!) it would raise and then everything would work fine. Dunno if it's the same.

Just remember: Flash is a horrible hack and needs to go away.

I have a similar setup (dual monitors) and I can use fullscreen flash. It does open behind the browser, however, if I the browser *is not* maximized, then I can simply click onto the video playing behind it and it works find.
