Delete key not working.

Hi there. first of all it took a while to get used to gnome3, but now i love it. I do only have one problem right now. My delete key doesn't work when i mark a file and want to delete it ill have to right click and then move to trash. Is there a solution for this ? its only in gnome3 that it doesn't work. It works perfect in gedit as a example.

I noticed the same thing. Regardless of whether behaviour is set to single or double click.

Shift+Del key executes the delete command to bypass trash.

I suspect it's a bug, though I can't find anything about it upstream, so perhaps it's fedora specific? I couldn't find anything in the fedora bug tracker though.

Thanks for that tip. But why does it make sense exactly? Is there some other function for the delete key all by itself now, or is it just useless in nautilus without modifiers?

Ctrl+x, ctrl+c, ctrl+v and now ctrl+delete. ;) Also, now it's probably harder to move file to trash accidentally.

That makes sense. Of course, I can do Ctrl+X. Ctrl+C and Ctrl+V with the left hand, while my right is on the mouse. I'd rather it be Ctrl+D for delete or just leave it the delete key alone.

Is there a dconf-key that can be edited you think?

I can't see anything to change shortcuts, at least in org -> nautilus.

Quick fix:
Run DCONF-editor, and open:
org -> gnome -> desktop -> interface
Enable "can-change-accels".

Open nautilus, select any file/directory, then click "Edit" from menubar, and hover on "Move to Trash" menuitem.
While hovering, click on your delete key. The accel should change from "cntrl+del" to "del".

Make sure you have selected a file, else the "Move to Trash" menuitem will be greyed out.

I suggest you disable "can-change-accels" afterwards, to prevent accidental accel changes.

EXCEPT that when close Nautilus and open it again, the accels reset themselves to ctrl-delete and shift-delete. I've also tried GCONF-editor (as opposed to Dconf-editor) and the key in question ("can-change-accels") doesn't even appear.

I'm really giving Gnome 3 a chance and so far I've been able to customize most aspects of it messing with a few xmls and css files except for this very annoying one -- I can't seem to find a definite solution for it.

Thanks for the guide, it worked for me (although I had to press "delete" twice until it really showed up in the menu)!

What a silly change... I thought one of the reasons for having a trash folder was for accidental deletes, so now we have something to prevent us from accidentally deleting files to the place where accidentally deleted files would normally go? :confused:

Now I only need a way to get the "up" button back in nautilus, and I'll be happy at least with that program...

Thanks Carlos, worked for me. Maybe the change is only active while you have 'can change accels' enabled? Does leaving it turned on make the change stick across closing and reopening nautilus?
