Why not VLC is a open source media player able to play almost any format. Its phonon backend is mature.
It should be added to fedora's official repo.
Gstreamer is still not mature and xine isn't been improved over a period of time.At least for KDE default phonon backend could be shifted to VLC until gstreamer becomes more usable for KDE.
Correct me if i am wrong.
this can be done manually though.Install vlc from their site http://www.videolan.org/vlc/
fedora development (Rawhide)
Install phonon-backend-vlc from kPackage kit or yum install phonon-backend-vlc
Open Kmenu -System settings - Multimedia -Phonon -Backend- Prefer VLC.
additionally install mozilla-vlc
open Konqueror-Settings-configure Konqueror-plugins-Scan for plugins
there you go now you never ever search for codecs again.
Note:The steps mentioned are in order dont change them.
