gFTP

Hello all!
I dont know if Im the only one with this problem, but everytime that I try to download a file using the gFTP client, after a sucessfull login, the gFTP crash:
segmentation fault
:confused:

It is working for someone?

I have had this same exact problem only when i uploaded a file, each time it would crash. Im not sure what it is, but i think its only on the x86_64 port.

From a shell try:
yum remove gftp
yum install gftp

Just to confirm that I'm using 32 bit and I've never had a problem with gftp on either of my machines.

well, duhh were not talking about a problem with the 32 bit version. Notice this is the x86_64 section of the forum!

Yes, Drews I understand, since I'm not quite senile yet. I was responding to YOUR comment that the problem seemed to be ONLY on the x86-64 port and confirming that the 32bit was functioning properly. This may also be classified as 'duh' but Firefox extensions has a nice ftp client called 'fireftp'. Now I'll leave you people to your discussion. Have a nice Thanksgiving.

yum remove gftp
yum install gftp

I uninstalled gftp, then compiled and installed the
latest gFTP version (http://gftp.seul.org/gftp-2.0.18rc1.tar.bz2) (2.0.18 rc1). It now works.

gFtp is not very stable in my experience.
If you are using FedoraCore3, you can use nautilus(filebrowser) for ftp acces.

I'm not impressed by gFTP. I'd really love to have FileZilla ported to gnome :).

I don't like GFTP myself. Since upgrading to FC3 I just use Nautilus. It works nicely since you can use the clipboard cut/paste options to upload/download files to a specific directory. You could also check out the extension for Mozilla Firefox: http://fireftp.mozdev.org/

Well, I thought we all talked about sFTP don't we ? I mean, come on, there shouldn't be a problem finding a gui FTP client in Linux. But if you want for example to connect to a Unix machine at work sFTP might be your only option.

Fireftp is a nice little thing and helps interoperability but it's too limited for extended use and it does not support sFTP (it's on todo list though).

I don't like FileZilla's interface and I am not sure about it's Unicode support for sftp. In fact I haven't been able to find any sftp gui client for Window$ that works with UTF encoded filenames so either I am doing something wrong or there is simply no such a thing for Winblow$. Could anyone help ? WinSCP does not work in either SCP or SFTP mode and tried many Unix/Linux/MacOSX hosts. WinSCP last version is presumebly compatible with SFTP protocol V4 but everybody uses OpenSSH which spots V3 instead.

Nautilus does work with sftp and UTF and offers good integration but, again, is rather limited.
