Can anybody help me sort out getting midi to work? I have alsa installed .

I checked the mixer settings, but when I try to open a midi file with kmid it acts like it's playing the file, but no sound.

Not yet supported in the ALSA emu10k1 driver. See these references:
http://www.chez.com/titan/DriversLinux/SBlive/live_faq.html#NoSoftsynth
http://www.alsa-project.org/alsa-doc/doc-php/template.php?company=Creative+Labs&card=Soundblaster+Live&chip=EMU10K1&module=emu10k1#bugs

It worked for me using the older OSS drivers..though I can't see anyone wanting to go back to those once they've experienced ALSA!

Thanks mhelios. You're right about the difference between the OSS and alsa drivers. Alsa is soooo much better. In the course of my research into getting midi to work I swore I read somewhere that midi wasn't supported in the OSS driver, and that if I wanted midi I'd have to wait until someone could put it in , or install the alsa driver... I can see that this is a problem that's going to drive me crazy until I can replace my sound card with something more compatible.

Lindi,
Not sure if you got Midi to work yet but if you havent I did find this link which got it working for me.
http://www.linuxfocus.org/English/September2002/article259.shtml

It explaned a lot of the problems with Midi and Alsa. I am able to play midi files with pmidi but I still do not have Kmid working in that it is compiled without alsa support in Fedora.
