I do like Gnome 3, but this I really miss. Is there something like that?
Thanks.

not that i can see, i didnt use the weather applet all that much or at all as it wasnt that good anyway. you might be better off seeing if there is a Firefox extension that can do it?

Most applets were determined by Fedora/Gnome to be unnecessary and were removed
from Gnome3 and it sounded like they have no intention of bringing them back.
If you need a weather thing, you'll need something like awn or cairo-dock. Maybe screenlets
or similar will work but I haven't tried. Someone will likely hack something for the panel given
enough time.. though, given how a lot of that stuff was done by ubuntu people, maybe the chances
of Gnome3 seeing much improvement isn't so likely.

I miss that too, it told me how to dress, I can't see from the window how weather it is, so now I either fire up the laptop, to look at it in F14, or listen to the news station, which has it every ten minutes. It should be on the desktop.
I think I read somewhere that some of the applets will return, eventually, but that the weather applet and pointer capture wouldn't make the cut. Maybe I need to learn javascript, cause I don't take orders too well, and the order to "use this and nothing else" , doesn't sit too well with me.

I use various weather applications to keep in touch (so to speak) with the places I used to live in or someone I know is living in now.
I also reside in two quite distant places with different climates. Sound weird, but I'm at appx. 50%/50% right now. And I enjoy knowing what the weather is at both places.
I did not get to setting up a personal weather station just yet, so I also like to get the exact temperature and other data from the local public weather station. It's a bit more precise than looking trough the window.
All of the above is just to illustrate that various weather applets have some uses. Whether these weather information actually amount to anything rationally useful or just add to the entertainment factor, is besides the point...
I have a feeling I'll hack Gnome-shell quite a bit myself unless someone else does it first.

I have a weather only cairo-dock down in the lower-left corner of my screen.
