if you add 3 to the boot line in the grub menu, you can probably boot into console mode. After login you could try to update or run gnome-session or startx.
A certain version of accountservice was the reason for GDM login issues. Not sure if this is the same issue you have. If the GDM screen appears you can also try Alt+Ctrl+F2 to switch to console.

Thanks for the reply..I got into console mode and startx told me x was running in another consol and gnome-session did not give any output..

ok if x-server is already running you better try the other method. So add 3 to the kernel boot line in your grub menu, when it appears. Maybe you can change to the desktop with startx then.
You can update in console mode via "yum update" if network works. Maybe it will solve the GDM issue.
