Log in to single user mode and reset your password.

Can you type your password and it's not accepted? That bug (http://forums.fedoraforum.org/showpost.php?p=1450231&postcount=27)was in F15 yesterday and a fix was found.
You don't have to log into single mode to change your password. Log onto a Virtual Console by pressing Alt-Ctrl-F2, logging in as root and typing
passwd username. But that's not your problem.
You might ask a mod to move this to the F15 Development forum, Rawhide is something different.

After re-installing and running updates (minus the accountsservices and gdm updates so I could still login) I have just run updates again and it reports
accountsservices-0.6.4-3.fc15
gdm-1:2.91.93-2.fc15
for update.
Does anyone know if they are the same two packages that caused the "can't login" problem, or have they been updated?
Although I now have a record of their versions, I didn't have one before, so am unsure.
Thanks.

Those are the updates. Install them as per these (http://forums.fedoraforum.org/showpost.php?p=1450231&postcount=27) instructions.

I saw that before, but being a Fedora n0ob I wasn't sure what it does. I have no idea what a localinstall does :-(
I just assumed that the faulty packages would be replaced in the near future. Is that not the case?
Any clarification would be appreciated :-) I like to understand what I'm doing rather than just follow blindly.
Also what advantage is there in installing these packages when I can get by without - as long as I don't install them normally?
Thanks for your time.

My mistake, you've already updated that far, so a normal update will bring them in.

Ooh that's really bad timing on my part :-)
I just ran the updates and rebooted 5 minutes ago and now can't login again.
Nevermind, I'll sort something out :-)

It updated those four files? To the versions specified in the other post. I'm sorry it's not working for you, those four fixed it for a bunch of people.

Well it was different from before but the same end result, in that I can login but it just shows the "f" splash screen with the black swirling circle thing. I left it there for some time but things didin't improve.
I dropped to a prompt and logged in ok and tried ctrl + Alt + F7 but got nothing. I tried startx but nothing happened either.
That was my last attempt.
I'm back in 14 now :-)

Nw I'm afraid, (a little) to reboot. When you're at a virtual Console, (Alt-Ctrl-F2 for instance), kill X by going to runlevel 3
su -c "init 3"
Then type startx. That ought to get you to your desktop, and connect to the net. I'd suggest doing that tomorrow evening, and then updating again. You may find a bugfix in there.

Ok, I'll try that :-)
Back in 10 :-)
---------- Post added at 05:00 AM ---------- Previous post was at 04:48 AM ----------
Ran the su -c "init 3"
and loads of entrys scrolled down the screen "starting blah blah" then the last one was
"starting permit users sessions"
and the flashing cursor just stayed flashing under that line. No disc activity.
Back in 14 again :-)

Saw the same stuff, however with trying a few keys I got back to command prompt and startx worked I am
now in F15 logged in as root?????that has not happened in awhile.
I am still having the blackout problems, but the desktop is very functional....gnome3.
need the updated driver so I don't blackout all the time

I just had to try to update again, so I had to go through it another time
seems like the ctrl alt F2 got me back to prompt.

just logged out then rebooted and now it let me log in as ME - woooh hooooh! tho it still blacks out, perhaps the broken xorg update will fix it...

Hmm, nearly, but not quite
I did ctrl+alt+f2 when the boot stalled.
Logged in to tty2 as me
Did the "init 3" bit and a blank screen came up with a flashing cursor at the top. No scrolling this time.
After a couple of minutes of nothing I did ctrl+alt+f2 again
ran startx and the desktop loaded but with me logged in (not root)
Buuuuuuuut I had no ethernet or wireless connection. Does init 3 affect network?
I checked network settings and both wired network and wireless network were enabled but greyed out.
No choice but to come back to 14 again :-)
It's a lark isn't it?

And the verdict is.............it's officially dead :-)

Not quite so simple, it seems
[root@AR51SU /]# yum install accountsservice-0.6.5-2.fc15
Loaded plugins: langpacks, presto, refresh-packagekit
Setting up Install Process
No package accountsservice-0.6.5-2.fc15 available.
Error: Nothing to do
Where did you get it from? :-)

Hi,
To install accountsservice-0.6.5-2.fc15, download accountsservice-0.6.5-2.fc15 and accountsservice-libs-0.6.5-2.fc15 (depending your arch.) from here http://koji.fedoraproject.org/koji/buildinfo?buildID=233068
In a terminal go to the download folder and type :# rpm -Uvh accountsservice-0.6.5-2.fc15.x86_64.rpm accountsservice-libs-0.6.5-2.fc15.x86_64.rpm
(The command is for x86_64)

Don't forget, F15 is a Alpha and you'll have often problems with this version...
Sometime you just have to wait for a update (the most often daily) and everything rock's again.
Be patient or you'll re-installing many times !

Yes, I appreciate that Raphos. I have my 14 installation (and one or two others) to fall back on, if necessary.
I thought I had waited for the update with regard to the accountsservice problem, but maybe not :-)
Anyway, I'm back up and running for the moment. I did pay close attention to the updates though.
In fact, I disabled the gdm-1:2.91.93-2.fc15 update, as I think that was one of the problem causers earlier.
Have you run that one?
Thanks again.

Yes,Paquets installés
gdm.x86_64 1:2.91.93-2.fc15 @updates-testing
and it works fine.
I don't care about updates, I just update every day with "yum update", "reboot" and see if F15 starts correctly. If not, I try to fix the problem (that's a good way to learn). If I'm really in trouble I wait for the next update.
