I haven't seen anyone post about the hard lockups occurring while running Gnome3, but, I see from the bugzilla there are many reports about it.
https://bugzilla.redhat.com/show_bug.cgi?id=680291
For me, it's nice to be able to use gnome-shell, but, it would be nicer if it didn't lock up so frequently. Gconf2 doesn't have a newer version in koji, has anyone found a way around this yet?

I've been looking for some more information on this as well. I get the issue about 2-3 times a day, and had assumed it was something to do with Nouveau. Has anyone running the Nvidia blob had the same issues?

I experience hard locks on my laptop with a Nvidia G210m running the latest updates to Fedora 15 and the nouveau driver. I have several other systems running Fedora 15 and Gnome Shell. They do not hard lock so I can only assume since they are running Intel and ATI drivers that it has to do with the nouveau driver.

The lock ups are random and don't seem to correspond to any specific action.

I have a 9800GT and haven't had lockups since the last slew of updates. It may or may not be nouveau.

I have a 8600M GT and I am having no lockups of any kind.
If I go to username and click on system settings > System Info, it tells me that for Graphics I am using Gallium 0.4 on NV84.
Shouldn't I expect to see Nouveau in that field?

Gallium 0.4 on NV84 is correct there.

Ah thanks. I thought it would be Nouveau there.
I tried inxi -G on mine and it says "command not found"
My N0obiness knows no bounds :-)

Inxi is a utility I used in my Debian days. It comes from smxi.org, smxi is an update utility use by a few of the Debian based distro. Inxi is included in a few of those distros also (LMDE is one), but, when I moved to Fedora the author revised it so it would work with Fedora for me. His website is here: http://smxi.org/
A simple way of installing it is to as root:
cd /usr/local/bin
wget -Nc smxi.org/inxi
chmod inxi
chown <username> inxi

Then as user in a terminal inxi -h shows all the options. inxi -G just shows graphics.

We use it in some of the IRC chat rooms when we're diagnosing problems. It's actually included now in Konversation as one of the default command aliases. I find is useful, it brings everything up in front of you in the terminal.

@detox. I tried KDE when F15 Gnome wasn't booting. I should try it again now that things are more stable. Maybe dual boot with the Gnome install.

@quackers. Cool, huh.

looks like the KLDE4.6.1 update plus a few others have fixed the lockup problem or its making me look dumb ( but thats nothing new )

Question is, is it Gconf or gnome-settings-deamon thats doing it? cause thats cause me nothing but grief, i didnt update that package however awhile ago it gave me grief so i reinstalled KDE and this time i only updated a certain amount of packages that didnt require gnome3 crap
