The latest updates just trashed my system , F15 installed from live cd (default), login went to "other" and then desktop does not open at all.

Sorry, on the login screen instead of my name it was asking for other user, so I had to enter my user name.
Yep to the first part, I am downloading the newest nightly live cd -- easy enough:rolleyes:

"Other" was appearing for me also. I think it was the bug in gnome-user-share. That seems to have been taken care of after the last updates. At least, my user name now appears at the Login screen.
Mutter errors still prevent the desktop from coming up.

This is in 32 bit. I installed from the F15 Alpha tc2, and, have been able to update in terminal. In the "mutter" bugzilla they say that the 64 bit works. I downloaded the F15 Alpha RC1 DVD 64 bit, just trying to find the time to do a new install.

I have not tried the 64 bit RC1 dvd, I used the live cd 64 bit of RC1, it was working very well -- the best so far,
until the latest updates this evening -- it had a bunch and I do remember seeing desktop related files.

New Flash ---- Just burned and booted the latest nightly 64bit live, it is working. I see that there are a whole bunch more updates
than I just did, so there is my dilemma do I try them or not. Not wins, sleep first and see if the updates look better in the A.M.

Just for jollies - i tried the updates, broke it while it was still updating

Hello All,

I'm new in the "testing" environment , and it surely is testing one's ...

I installed Monday night with the new boot iso .

Was glad Anaconda had improved so much !

After the install and reboot , I got the Gnome shell in view at about 20 metres
away ( 1600x1200 ) on my poor little monitor .

Even with my magnifier glass no readably to see .

Because I didn't know the structure of this shell , and couldn't read anything ,
I had a wholes days trial and error , to discover where the system settings
where hidden.

I say hidden , while who would have thought , you're supposed to be
visualy impaired  ore deaf to find your way for the system settings !

So , when finally my display was set to a reasonable resolution , there was yet
nothing to read .

Nobody on this planet can read what came on screen . The letters are for a part
repeated (as I think) ,on different heights , and partly in each other mangled .

It remands me the ancient Armenian alphabet , but it surely isn't .

By all this mishap , I had to find info , so rebooting in Fedora 14 to go www .
Repeatedly doing so , every time in the idea I had found a solution .

This morning ( 02:00 Belgium or CET ) I saw the latest updates ,
and thought yes , where close at the arrival line

Updates installed , reboot , and ... a closed curtain :D

Haply telling me , it's time and take a nap .

After 3 night's and 2 days ,sure !

I hope I haven't made waves to big with my kind of English and wish you well

martin

the 20110223 loaded fine for me as well, however when I did the updates
I have not yet tried the 20110224.

....224 would not boot to new desktop,, so back to ...223 to see if I can get it to install and then selectively try some of the updates

...223 would not install to hd properly. Is there a way to run install to HD after installing updates to the live cd?
the install to HD icon disappears after updates.

I did a net install from boot.iso last night and am also unable to login to the default Gnome session (this is on 32bit). I installed openbox and when I choose "Gnome/Openbox" from GDM I'm able to get a working Gnome 2.X looking desktop with openbox as the window manager. It works really well and I've been using F15 all morning- with everything working great- even SpiderOak works fine

The last install I got the new Gnome3 working with was the live cd of RC1...worked really well til the updates last evening, I have tried all the nightly composes and none would work or install with working Gnome3....so I am about to go back and install the RC1 live and F15 back working ....for the time being....or the next updates:C

Thank's korsnick !

That I didn't thought about that , to sleepy I guess , or to much focus on
one of the "isues".

i did a net install on my netbook and logging in gives me nothing, GDM works fine, but no actual DE just a wallpaper. Is there anyway to fix the issue without installing a different DE or wm?

havent you got the chooser below like it was in F14 you had GDM and a bar on the bottom where you could choose what DE to login with

No all i see is the top bar with power down button, date and time, then central section with username field and password field, no option to choose DE, however i want to test out gnome-shell, anyone got a short term fix till an update is released?

It's missing a upower update that works like udev thats what is stopping it from loading. The update is in koji just downloaded and installed it to fix my F15.

Sorry forgot that I went through Bugzilla.

You need upower-0.9.8-3.fc15 see link below.

$ rpm -qa | grep -i upower
upower-0.9.8-3.fc15.i686

i installed that from koji and even after a reboot choosing GNOME from the GDM menu is still borked... guess i'll just keep rockin' the openbox

https://fedoraproject.org/wiki/Features/Gnome3 I used this link so Gnome 3 would fall back to the old Gnome to install the update to upower.

Gnome3 is working for me now too. I installed that upower rpm from within openbox and even though I thought the reboot didn't fix it, everything seems to be working now. Maybe you just have to reboot it 3 times :)

i did the same thing, now GDM sits there cycling the little login window- so quickly that it's impossible to login. so if i go to a virtual console and drop to rl3 then start openbox or xfce or gnome-session via startx, NetworkManager won't connect to my wifi network... and everything was working so well before that upgrade :C

That happens to me sometimes and I find that if I drop to ctrl+alt+f2, log in then log out and go back with ctrl+alt+f1, it usually cures it. I can then login normally.
