View Full Version : Mouse problems with FC2...

Hello all.

I am running a Compaq Presario 918RSH laptop which previously ran FC1 flawlessly. I have since upgraded to FC2 (fresh install actually) and have experienced no problems with the exception of mouse pad usage in X. The onboard mouse pad does work, but has some issues. Specifically, there are 2 issues:

1. There is no more "tap clicking". By tap clicking, I mean that it used to be possible to simply tap the mouse pad to simulate a left-button mouse click (this is how it behaved in FC1 and it worked perfectly). Now, the only way to click is to use the actual buttons.

2. I can no longer use an external PS/2 or USB mouse. I used to be able to simply plug in a PS/2 mouse while running X and X would use both simultaneously.

For whatever it's worth, I do notice that when I'm at the console and I move my PS/2 mouse, the following message is repeatedly issued:

"Synaptics driver lost sync at byte 1"

This repeats for as long as the external mouse is being used. When I then use the onboard mouse, the console reports:

"Synaptics driver resynced."

Any ideas on how I can get my tap clicking and/or external mouse to work as they did in FC1?

Thanks!

Did you search the forums? I have seen several posts on synaptics touchpad issues and on ps/2 mouse issues.

I didn't but I will. :)

Dunno why I didn't think to search earlier! I guess I'm just used to boards that are so big that searching yields thousands of irrelevant results; thus, I am trained to not even bother with it.

Anyway, I found the fix to both issues at this post:

I had Presario 700 and my touchpad is working well. Try to recompile kernel by your own and compile in synaptic module.

After upgrading to FC2 i got problem with USB mouse. System don't want to init it during boot, i have to unplug mouse and connect it again.
