I am running FC1, fully updated from the DAG APT repository plus KDE 3.2.2 rpms from the KDE servers, on a Dell 840C with all the latest BIOS upgrades (Version 13).

A while back I asked on this forum what wireless network card would give me the least hassle to install and the consensus (here and elsewhere) was a Orinoco. I purchased an Orinoco Gold Classic (I am informed that the current Proxim cards bearing the Orinoco name will not work) and have been attempting to make it work with my system.

The system recoginzes the card and attempts to use the orinoco_cs driver. Set up goes well and I am able to ping a remote host, but the through put is so pitiful, less than dialup speed, that I am unable to use the connection.

What might I do to correct this issue?

Just in case someon says,"I could answer that question but I need more information," here is some additional information.

When I run cardctl status I get:
Socket 0:
no card
Socket 1:
5V 16-bit PC Card
function 0: [ready]

When I run lsmod |grep orinoco I get:
orinoco_cs 5556 1
orinoco 38636 0 [orinoco_cs]
hermes 8068 0 [orinoco_cs orinoco]
ds 8680 4 [orinoco_cs]
pcmcia_core 56256 0 [orinoco_cs ds yenta_socket]

My card says it is an Agere Systems PC24E-11-FC/R.

Any thoughts?

I'm not sure if this matters, but have you tried things in the command line? Like no X at all.

Not too sure how Wireless Cards and Linux work, I've not been able to get mine to work.

It's possible that something from KDE or Gnome(I'm guessing you only use KDE) is slowing things down?

Again, I'm only a newbie, so... yeah... lol

Hope this helps.

For the record, I believe that 2 in French is deux. *curses about having to learn french in school* lol
