Hello everyone,

I have just installed fc14 xfce spin live cd and it works well with my netbook. I tried to tweak the xfce4-menu-12943999990.rc file located in /home/username/.config/xfce4/panel in order to hide the icon button but whenever I restart the panel the modified file is rewritten by the system. The original version of the file looks like use_default_menu=true
menu_file=/etc/xdg/menus/xfce-applications.menu
show_menu_icons=true
button_title=Xfce Menu
show_button_title=true
icon_file=xfce4_xicon1
and Iḿ trying to add the following code with no success show_button_icon=false
I would appreciate your support

Please help me. Thanks

Hi, fitlad,

I'm sorry I can't answer your question (even though I too am using the F14 Xfce Spin -- and enjoying it). I'd just like to mention that you can probably get knowledgeable help by subscribing to the Fedora "xfce" mailing list. Basic info on it is available here:

https://admin.fedoraproject.org/mailman/listinfo/xfce

Another possible resource for you to explore is the Xfce Community Forum:

http://forum.xfce.org/

(Apologies if you already know about this list and the forum). HTH,

I'm not using xfce at the moment but I vaguely remember that some configuration had to be done outside of xfce. That is log in to another desktop or bypass the gui altogether. If xfce found some files changed after logging in it would replace them.

If my memory is wrong hopefully someone will correct me but it might be worth a try.

What “ozjd” wrote. XFCE re-write its configuration files when it quits, ignoring all changes that happened behind its back. So you need to do them while XFCE is not running.

(I don’t know if this is true for the just released XFCE 4.8, but it’s irrelevant to this discussion.)

Ziyad.

Edit: Just noticed the original post’s date. Sorry for being late/replying to an old post (hopefully, the original poster already fixed his/her problem).
