Let me preface this by stating that I am a very new Linux user (newb) so I could be missing something very obvious. I have a Toshiba Satellite L645D-S4056 and recently installed Fedora 14 (64-bit GNOME) with all sorts of updates and software.

I'm working my way through all of the hardware to get it all running properly. I figured out how to get the RealTek wireless-n adapter working. The webcam is working even with Skype which is tricky on the 64-bit version.

At the moment, my touchpad doesn't work. I see a lot of articles online about the touchpad not double-tapping, but mine doesn't work at all. I've been using a mouse for all my GUI stuff.

I went to SYSTEM --> PREFERENCES --> MOUSE and selected the touchpad tab, but I can't figure out how to make it work.

Any tips, suggestions, walk-throughs, etc. would be both helpful and appreciated.

I found the solution on my own and it was so simple, I'm too embarrassed to say what it was.

would you care to explain what your solution was, please.

I have FC14 installed and my touchpad moves the pointer around, but I cannot get it to do mouse clicks.
I am also, sadly, missing a preferences -> mouse/keyboard -> touchpad folder.

Believe it or not, I just had to enable the touchpad in the BIOS. For some reason, when Windows was on the laptop, it recognized the touchpad even though it wasn't enabled in the BIOS, but Linux needed it enabled. Some laptops (like mine) also have a button right above the touch pad to enable or disable it.

I might try running this command in a terminal window as root:

yum install synaptics

followed by rebooting.

If that doesn't work, this might help with your situation:
